Sometimes mental health trauma resolves naturally. In other cases, it’s left unresolved, causing a variety of ailments. We love helping people resolve trauma and experience freedom.
According to the research, trauma is naturally resolved approximately six months after the traumatic event. However, in some cases the trauma is left unresolved due to the nature of the event and/or the mental health state of the person experiencing the trauma.
We diagnose PTSD using the PCL-5, a valid and reliable diagnostic tool with twenty criteria, each measured on a 5-point Likert scale. Scores above thirty indicate likelihood of PTSD, which warrants clinical intervention.
At Recovatry, we’re trained in an evidence-based intervention known as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for posttraumatic stress disorder. We’ve seen tremendous results with CPT at our clinic, however, not all patients respond well.
An alternative therapy for PTSD is eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), a treatment approach we’re not adequately equipped to provide, now. Either way, we’re a good place to start. Feel free to come in for an assessment and orientation to CPT and if it proves unfruitful, then we’ll refer you to a provider that specializes in EMDR.
